Q & A with Demetra Kolakis

What is the concept behind your latest collection? The collection, explores the spaces between art, design & fashion aiming to redefine the categorical convention of these genres as well as their ideals, content, norms and expectation. In an uncomplicated, modern way, the designs bring together functionality and avant-garde, to form a symbiotic bond, sexy and cool. The collection is crafted with an articulated structure, marked by physical presence emphasized in volume and shape, and by arranging subdued colors.

Describe your collection/creation in three words? A-sexual, Aseasonal, Conceptual Design

What is so far your greatest experience in your 'fashion' career?
The first time I saw someone on the street wearing an item from the D10119 collection. It is inspiring to see how someone makes an item all their own.

What is on your music list while you are making your collection/creation? The Ramones.

What made you smile today? Getting a seat on the tube.

What is the latest thing you bought for yourself? A pair of Vans sneakers.

How do you form the idea of making a photo installation to present your fashion garments? It is a conceptual investigation of how a project can be presented and absorbed both intellectually and viscerally.

What are underlying connections among fashion design, photography, web and graphic design based on your previous works? The idea or the concept is the underlying connection and it can take many and all forms.

From your perspectives, how can various media impact or intermediate communications between fashion objects and viewers? It is multi platform and as such communication is much more in depth, which has the possibility of presenting not only concept, but visceral response as well.

Is there any possibility of involving digital tools like video or laser projection to amplify the visual power of your presentations? Yes, it is something that I have already worked with and will again. I am very interested in exploring the notion of a space within a space in which a totally immersive experience is possible.
