ZWYRD at 11th Fashion Week Poland

Last year, FASHIONCLASH had a pleasure to invite young, Polish designer, who just debuted  at the FashionPhilosophy Fashion Week. It was first ZWYRD’s collection ever created and ever shown and at once people fell in love in his masculine and nature-inspired designs. Question was, if Grzegorz Marcisz, the owner of ZWYRD, will continue his success with his second collection. And you know what? He did!

Second collection of ZWYRD focuses on the science fiction theme – Grzegorz’s aim was to present his own vision of the future. In case of Marcisz, the theme is not a random words, which are supposed to fill in the catalogue or a press info – the general destruction of the world, pessimistic image of the future is visible in his designs. Grzegorz based his colors and hues on very dark cobalt, metallic silver, greys, black and white. He also included semi-transparent black materials and colorfull prints, which resembled explosion (matching with the theme of destruction).

In case of ZWYRD, it is extremely impressive, that such a young designer (he is actually still a student) creates coherent, mature and interesting collections. The same goes with the shows themselves – barely anyone uses metal/rock music to the fashion-shows. We cross our fingers for ZWYRD and we wish, that this young Polish talent will create many goods for European fashion.

Encounter with DUD.ZIN.SKA from Poland

Please introduce yourself:
I’m Anna Dudzińska, fashion designer from Poland. I started running my own brand almost 2 years ago after graduating from Cracow School of Art and Fashion Design in Poland. My style may be described as a street style avant garde: I’m trying to combine different subjects and materials, but the biggest area of my interest is wool and things which you are able to make from it. My works were presented in Netherlands, France, Germany and Poland and have distincted by different media from all over the world.

LUKASZ STEPIEN by Lukasz Stepien

Lukasz
What is your name? Łukasz Stępień (Lukasz Stepien)

What is the name of your label? LUKASZ STEPIEN

What inspires you as a designer? I'm inspired by Multitasking    forms, multiple use of clothing, building construction of new clothes, often derived from the architecture. My clothes are intended to reflect my style in the trends of the season concerned.

Who is your favorite fashion designer? Why? My favorite designer is Martin Margiela. I appreciate him since he shows his style, in whatever form you can always recognize his style. He has its own approach to fashion that he guards and his fashion is an art rather than just displaying clothes.

Another designer whose work I value very highly is John Richmond. His collections are a combination of classic design with a new idea of the men's fashion.

What the both have in common is that they always show something new in men’s fashion, something what no one else has done so far.

What can you bring to FASHIONCLASH Maastricht 2011? The moment I heard about FASHIONCLASH I thought it was a good opportunity to show my collection.

What do you expect from the FASHIONCLASH Maastricht 2011? I expect that my fashion and style will appeal to a wide audience. I also hope to make new friends in the fashion industry and gain recognition and customers on the new market.

Sketch, collection fall 2010

How did your experience with fashion started? When did you decide to be a fashion designer?
It began eight years ago. I felt that I had nothing to wear, and so I began designing for myself. Gradually my projects were gaining recognition. Then I was offered a job in Parisian company owned by Diesel, where I realized fashion is what I want to do.

What are your goals concerning your career? What are your ambitions? Where do you see yourself in the future?  I am already developing my own brand in Poland and abroad. My clothes receive recognition among men, but not only. I will always promote my own style and its individuality in men's fashion, but of course I do not exclude working for large fashion house.

Anna's inspiration

What inspires you as a designer? I treat fashion as a form of experiment. I like to combine different subjects and materials, usually from the opposite sides ( new vs. old, beautiful vs. ugly, tasty vs. disgusting etc). But mostly I'm inspired by modern architecture and interior design including structures, non-standard materials and shapes. It gives quite an appreciable background to my projects. Furthermore I'm a big fan of avant-garde in different fields.

Who is your favorite fashion designer? Why? I'm absolute fan of Martin Margiela. His unconventional and simply novel attitude towards fashion gives me an impression that there's still something to do in this kind of art. Besides interesting clothes, he has created totally new existence by mixing fashion design with other fields of art. Altogether it gives quite unique brand with a coherent marketing background. I also admire Japanese fashion designers.

What can you bring to FASHIONCLASH Maastricht 2011? Avant-garde in ready-to-wear version

Do you expect from the FASHIONCLASH Maastricht 2011? First of all good fun and positive vibes. It's also an ideal moment for making new and interesting acquaintances. And last, but surely not least, it's a great occasion to promote my collection.

How did your experience with fashion started? When did you decide to be a fashion designer? Actually, I did my first fashion sketches when I was a child. Maybe it sounds banally, but from that time I wanted to become a fashion designer. And the final decision was made after I graduated in psychology. Then I staked everything on one card :)

What are your goals concerning your career? What are your ambitions? Where do you see yourself in the future? The perfect situation would be designing for some fashion houses for a while and after that expanding my own brand, preferably in Paris or London. But the most important is to go with the flow, no matter what happens.
