FASHIONCLASH Festival 2015 - designer Market

FASHIONCLASH Market takes place June 12 – 14, 2015 in Maastricht. 

Thirty-four promising young designers from different countries will participate and present their unique products, including clothing, shoes, jewelleries and accessories at the Market. MAFAD academy will also occupy part of the market, as well as PUP magazine.

It’s free for anyone to enter the market. FASHIONCLASH wants to offer a chance for visitors to browse around and buy these fascinating items. The price will range from 15 Euros to 1000 Euros. Please note that all the purchases will only be made with CASH.

FASHIONCLASH designer Market

As you already know, the FASHIONCLASH Festival will take place from the 13th until the 15th of June at the SAMdecorfabriek in Maastricht. On offer, we have mind-blowing fashion shows, an incredible exhibition and, at the same location for the first time this year, a Designer Market!

The Designer Market is a unique platform where 30 young designers will sale their collections. It is of course a great opportunity for them, as they will present their work to a large audience, but also for you. Who doesn’t want to have exclusive and original designer pieces? Now you might ask, what will you be able to see and purchase at the Designer Market?

Marsha Kessels Jewellery

Marsha Kessels is a jewellery designer from the Netherlands and based in Maastricht. She designs objects and jewellery inspired by nature. The forest is her favourite playground. Her collection will be presented at the FASHIONCLASH 'designer' Market.

Stieglitz by Pien Stieglis

Today we introduce you to Dutch designer Pien Stieglis and her label Stieglitz. You will be able to check out her collection at the Designer Market.


Hello Pien! What inspires you in general? 
I’ve always been impressed by the strong culture that exists within particular tribes. Thinking of ethnic groups, what strikes me most is the strength of the collective. I often think; where do I stand in this world that constantly changes, where you are confronted with new possibilities and choices daily? We hardly know what to do any more; a world with so many possibilities doesn’t necessarily make us stronger. When I look at, for instance the Mursi people in Ethiopia, I see a population that stands close to its own identity, which provides strength. For over decades they have been wearing the same colors and accessories. It is like everything has been set in stone, but at the same time is immutably beautiful. However, currently the existences of some ethnic groups are threatened. For this reason I want to be inspired by what is still present in the world. Our worlds, our ways of living stand so far apart. I therefore wish to combine both worlds in my designs and capture the beauty and simplicity of life, which will be symbolized in my collections. I hope that the Stieglitz tribe will represent, and make one realize, that the power of the tribes is still within us.

While I am reading J.D. Salingers’s A Perfect Day for Bananafish, sending a text message and, simultaneously, updating my status on facebook, I wonder; how do I use my time? And more specifically, how do I relate to the power of images and information to which I constantly expose myself and which is poured out on me? 
The performance Cut Away The Time Will Tell is situated in a contemporary interior. The dancers represent fragments of scenes from a past which contours slowly, occasionally place a still frame around the present and try to get a grip at a future which is not yet defined.  
Cut Away The Time Will Tell takes away from our contemporary visual culture which is dictated by velocity and visibility. But above all, seeks to make the most precious possession in modern society tangible: time.

FASHIONCLASH STORE in Rechtstraat 88 in Maastricht is closing and so far there is no alternate location. We had the space for temporary use and the contract has ended.
21 st of January is the last day that the store will open doors. There is an extra discount of 20 % at the cashdesk on 19, 20 and 21 January.

What can you expect this weekend at FASHIONCLASH Market!

More than 40 designers will be showcasing and selling their work. To give you an impression we present to you these labels: The Furansu, Unique clothing, knits and accessoires by Nina Führer, unique knits by a new concept striKKs, great dresses with unique prints by IXX and MLY by Emily Hermans. For her label MLY, Emily Hermans designs prints and textiles, which makes the clothing very unique.
The designers will be there, so you can get to know them and have a closer look at their unique designs.

Charlotte Kan

Charlotte Kan is a Dutch womenswear designer. She started her label Charlotte Kan in 2008, a year after graduating cum laude at the Willem de Kooning academy in Rotterdam. Charlotte Kan is inspired by girls that take fashionable self-portraits. This translates into a highly wearable collection with a minimal cut and clever detailing. The collection is designed and produced in small editions in her studio in Rotterdam.
Starting February 2011 each month a new design is produced and presented in the project Play&Pose. In this project fashion bloggers are asked to photograph themselves in new Charlotte Kan designs. This way the garment is presented by the wearer itself. Pretty cool!

 SS2012 Play&Pose with fashion bloggers Charlotte Kan gave 10 SS2012 garments to 10 fashion bloggers. They were free to style the items and combine them with their own garments. During Amsterdam Fashionweek they were photographed by Carina Hesper for the Play&Pose lookbook.
