Viktor & Rolf Couture Spring Summer 2015

Remember our project (OLD)Fashion(ed) developed in cooperation with Dutch Dance Festival and Museum aan het Vrijthof?
Firstly, (OLD)Fashion(ed), is chosen as one of the exemplary projects for the Art of Impact, the new programme of the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science and six public funding bodies for culture. The programme supports cultural projects which have an effect on society. This means that with a modest grant from The Art of Impact, (OLD)Fashion(ed) can extend its reach even further in 2015.
Secondly, craftswoman Ingrid Reinhoud collaborated with Viktor & Rolf for their Couture spring summer collection 2015, which they presented this week in Paris. For this collection they drew inspiration from the expressive landscapes of Vincent van Gogh. The collection featured striking 3D flowers and enormous straw hats was created in collaboration with Ingrid Reinhoud who know everything about the crafts of straw braiding.

Local talents at FASHIONCLASH Festival 2014

IINUA Joelle Boers & Noir Near Future
FASHIONCLASH is an international platform but with strong roots and relation to its local talents.
During the 6th edition of FASHIONCLASH Festival several local designers presented their work. With 'local' we consider designer from the Euregio Meuse Rhein and lot only designer based in the region but also MAFAD academy alumni or designer born and raised in the region.
To strengthen the regional 'fashion' network and community we have initiated FAB Fashion Across Borders two years ago. FAB is a cooperation with Fashion Museum Hasselt and Designmetropole Aachen.

Next to FAB and FASHIONCLASH another important player in MAFAD, Maastricht Academy of Fine Arts and Design. Majority of local designers are MAFAD alumni.
During the 6th edition of the festival MAFAD fashion graduates presented their collections and also the talented 3rd year students (ABOUT 11) where on display in the fashion show programme.
Furthermore it is very important that Maastricht has various academies, such as the renowned Toneelacademie Maastricht (drama school Maastricht). Each edition students and alumni of the drama academy are participating with 'fashion' related performances.

At the moment city of Maastricht is developing a policy around the concept of 'Mode Maastricht' (Fashion Maastricht). We have always believed in Maastricht's potential but it has to be about supporting the new generation of talents. That is the priority.

So, who are the local/regional talents? Here is a brief overview of some of them.

The three designers participating in the FEE Academy, Jet Teunis, Mirte Engelhard and Ine de Haes will be presenting their work. Lucky for you, you will be able to purchase it!

FASHIONCLASH designer Market

As you already know, the FASHIONCLASH Festival will take place from the 13th until the 15th of June at the SAMdecorfabriek in Maastricht. On offer, we have mind-blowing fashion shows, an incredible exhibition and, at the same location for the first time this year, a Designer Market!

The Designer Market is a unique platform where 30 young designers will sale their collections. It is of course a great opportunity for them, as they will present their work to a large audience, but also for you. Who doesn’t want to have exclusive and original designer pieces? Now you might ask, what will you be able to see and purchase at the Designer Market?

ZWYRD by Grzegorz Marcisz

In May, Laurens and Branko, two of the artistic directors of FASHIONCLASH, went to Poland to attend the 10th edition of FashionPhilosophy Fashion Week Poland. During the event they had the pleasure to invite one designer to participate in the FASHIONCLASH Festival 2014.

The lucky talent is Grzegorz Marcisz and his label ZWYRD. Grzegorz is Polish and only a second year student at the Strzeminski Academy of Fine Arts in Lodz.

Marieke van Geffen

Today we have the pleasure to introduce you to Marieke van Geffen, who’s a 24-year-old Dutch fashion designer. She graduated from the HKU Utrecht in 2014 and established her own label, Marieke van Geffen. Marieke's collection will be presented at the Fashion Show Programme.

Hello, Marieke! Please introduce yourself. Who are you? Where do you come from? What is your field of specialisation?
Hi there! I’m Marieke. I am currently working on my new collection SS/AW2015, which is planned to be released on June 15. Besides working on my collection I follow a course at the Dutch Shoe Academy in Utrecht, where I am learning the craft of making shoes, so  I can fulfill a long-term wish of mine: to be able to design and fabricate a total collection from head to toe.

Where are you based?
I live and work in Utrecht. It is a beautiful old city in the heart of the Netherlands, such a nice place to both live and work!

What inspires you in general?
The human body is what inspires me the most. I am always thinking about how to protect the  body for what the future will bring us. It is challenging, because only time will tell us what is really going to happen to mankind. Therefore, I make my own prophecies about what the future will bring us. My collections are based on these stories.

What place or city do you find inspiring?
This is a hard one! I find inspiration in many places and people. Ideas sometimes just pop up out of the blue. But you if you want me to choose just one place, I would say Stockholm. The calmness and the atmosphere there give me a happy feeling. The old town and the beautiful nature with a lot of water give me the rest I need in order to create new work. Also, the Swedish way of living and style fits me well.

FASHIONCLASH Side Program: Fashion Film Night Out

The FASHIONCLASH Festival 2014 Side Program will start off with a special evening at the Lumière Cinema of Maastricht.

Starting at 9pm on the 12th of June, the Fashion Film Night Out will consist of the screenings of short films by young filmmakers and fashion designers and it will also include a special selection from the Berlin Fashion Film Festival 2013.

Likeme(N) by Gertjan van der Linden

Gertjan van der Linden is a Dutch designer based in Noord-Brabant, in the South of the Netherlands. He launched his own label, Likeme(N) in 2011. Society and the interactions between individuals, groups and fashion are the main inspirations behind his work. At the FASHIONCLASH Fashion Shows, he will be presenting Inc(RED)iblE, a collection focusing on pointless violence in society.

Hey Gertjan! Please introduce yourself. Who are you? Where do you come from? What is your field of specialization?
I, Gertjan van der Linden, graduated from the Utrecht School of the Arts (HKU) in 2011 with a bachelor’s in fashion design. During those years, I focused on the relation between human identity and society. I observe the interactions of groups versus individuals, personal style, and the sign system of fashion. I created my own label, Likeme(N) in 2011. The aim of the label is to bring attention on the problems that society faces, by developing and realizing concepts that matter. All the concepts have a common thread: individuality, identity, nostalgia, and authenticity. Within those, a dark-edge is visible as well as a healthy dose of humour. My mission is to inspire society with my collections, so that people can be a part of it. At the same time, I try to warn them by showing what the “problems” are in society nowadays. I do this by elaborating on themes such as individuality, identity and nostalgia.

Yojiro Kake

Yojiro Kake is a Japanese designer based in Florence, Italy. His latest collection is inspired by "rain" and its effect on garments. Yojiro's collection will be presented during the closing Fashion Show on Sunday the 15th!

Hi Yojiro! What inspires you in general?
In general, I am inspired by contemporary arts, music and films, but I mainly get my inspirations from my everyday life, as well as the emotions of people in it. Emotions and feelings are more important to me because there are difficult to explain. Using several methods, I like to “translate” those feelings into my design.

What place or city do you find inspiring?
I don’t feel too much from places or cities. I think it’s all about people; different people stimulate me and inspire me.

What is it like to be a young designer in your city/country?
Here in Florence there aren’t many young designers around. But I’m proud to be ‘based in Florence’, though I’ve heard some negative things from young designers in Italy. However, I do believe that designers can create a trend no matter where they are based.
