Marko Marosiuk - fashion & costume designer from Serbia
Please introduce yourself to our readers. (Who are you, where do you come from and what is your field of specialization?)
My name is Marko Marosiuk, and I come from Serbia. I graduated from the Academy of Fine Art, and I am a fashion and a costume designer.
What inspires you in general?
Love stories inspire me mostly, I just need to have a story in my mind and then I make up characters. Also I am very inspired by historical costumes, Renaissance, Baroque, etc. I must not forget my divas - my favorite singers and actresses; they entertain me and inspire me, make me cry, laugh. I identify with them and love them; just feel like they make a huge part in my creative process and everyday life.

Collection 'Inlaid Fantasies' by Andreea Mandrescu
Please introduce yourself to our readers. (Who are you, where do you come from and what is your field of specialization?)
My name is Andreea Mandrescu, was born in Romania and at age of 15 emigrated in Israel with my family. At the moment I live in London, where I moved in 2009. I am a textile, material and surface designer and opened my own design studio after I graduated from Central Saint Martins College, London, UK in 2011.
Where are you based?
I am based in London, both myself and my studio.
What inspires you in general?
Anything ranging from a pattern on the street to furniture and architecture can inspire me. Mostly, I love to explore and combine different materials and creating interesting tactile and visual surfaces and construction.
What is it like to be a young designer in your city?
Not very easy, I believe that at the moment nowhere is easy to be a young designer. London is a great city for inspiration which loves what is new and innovative, so I take comfort in that at times of struggle.

Shoe design by Ellen Sampson from London
Please introduce yourself:
My name is Ellen Sampson and I am a shoe designer, curator and artist living and working in London. I work on the boundaries between fashion and fine art, attempting to explore the relationship between clothing and lived experience. I am also undertaking a PhD in Footwear at Royal College of Art.
What inspires you in general?
I take most of my inspiration from sculpture and architecture and furniture design. I am particularly inspired by the work of artists and designers from the early and mid 20th Century. I have a particular interest in sculptors such as Barbara Hepworth and Brancusi whose simple abstracted forms and clean lines really appeal to me. I also really like the mark making and painterly qualities of the St Ives group artists such as Ben Nicholson. When developing a collection I often refer to furniture and interior design from the 30s, 40s, and 50s. I particularly like the work of Jean Prouve for its honest use of materials and simple functional forms.

IKKAI by Gerda Postma - The aura of fashion
The name IKKAI, which is partly used as a pseudonym, emerged from a fascination with old family traditions and gender issues. It is a combination of the characters Gerda and Kai, also occurring in a story by H.C. Anderson, and used as a tradition to replace the name Gerda for Kai. The work ´IK´ means ´I´ in Dutch, the name KAI represents the male side of the twofold personage. IKKAI turned into an alter ego of neutral gender.
My
life started on the countryside
in the northern part of the Netherlands.
I
make installations
related to fashion. Within the installation, I use several disciplines
like illustration, animation and film where clothing and accessories
function as a communicative device within the concept, aiming to
redefine fashion ideals.
Where
are you based?
Amsterdam.
What
inspires you in general?
Films,
music, social developments, design
art, stories, museums.
What
is it like to be a young designer in your city/country?
There
are a lot of opportunities in our country when it comes to art and
design.
When
it comes to art and design the quality level is high, it is
progressive and the Dutch are open to new initiatives.
