Sculpted Beauty by Iva Kujundžić

Meet Iva Kujundžić, a Belgrade based artist/designer, who describes herself as an endless dreamer, passionate creator and true entrepreneur. She has won the FTDC contest at Serbia Fashion Week, giving her the opportunity to participate in FASHIONCLASH. A designer with the soul of an artist, her new collection, 'Sculpted Beauty', was inspired by Rodin's sculptures and the art nouveau era. The dominant veins in Rodin's work provided a direct link to the art nouveau era, known for its dynamic wavy lines. Moved by the emotion in these sculptures, she wanted to channel these in her collection, which she achieved through leather sculpting and handwork. The dominant veins in Rodin's work provided a direct link to the art nouveau era, known for its dynamic wavy lines. It was this anatomical challenge that provided her with inspiration to play with textures through a monochromatic lens.

Iva's collection will be presented at the Show Program on Saturday the 16th of June at the SAM-Decorfabriek. Get your tickets here.

Marko Marosiuk

Photography by Marko Vulevic
Today we introduce you to one of our returning designers, Marko Marosiuk, from Belgrade, Serbia. His collection portrays an end of a love story, and it is part of our fashion show programme.

Hi Marko! What inspires you in general?
I know it sounds cliché, but my biggest inspiration is love. I am always trying to tell a love story, or I get inspired by a movie, or a book, or a song that talks about a love story. And then, there are so many other things that I combine with this basic idea.

What place or city do you find inspiring?
I still find Paris to be the most inspiring cities of all.

What is it like to be a young designer in your city/country?
To be a designer in Serbia is still very hard. It is an economically poor country, and people still don’t believe in the culture of buying designer clothes, even though Serbia has so many talented designers. But it’s nice to know that people still like and understand my design.

Now we are so excited to see her brand new collection that will premiere at FASHIONCLASH Maastricht 2012!

My name is Ivana Pilja and Im a fashion designer based in Belgrade, Serbia.

3. What served as inspiration for your collection?
Insects. I went a step further with exploring fashion sculptures; costumes are revived and have received a variety of colors with insects inspired prints.

4. The collection is very architectural and geometrical - Can you tell us why you used these kind of shapes?
A very important part of my design is the research of new forms, regardless of my current collection’s inspiration, architecture and geometry remain as a recognizable part of my work.

5. What was the biggest challenge in your collection?
My biggest challenged is to make pieces that are avant-garde and also wearable at the same time.

Straight, strong, and simplified geometrical.

7. How do you personally define “fashionclash” or “a clash with fashion” for yourself?
Opposites attract in all fields, in fashion everything is permitted.
