Haesung Bong

Haesung Bong is a South-Korean designer, who benefiting of full scholarships from various competitions in South-Korea, has attended some of the most prestigious design schools in Europe such as Asmod Paris and ArtEZ University of the Arts in Arnhem. He describes the tone of voice of his designs as serene, with a sense of isolation and internalisation narrated by visualised concepts, artisanal textiles and structural silhouettes.

His current collection, 'Box Gallery',  delivers a moment of cute, lovely and experimental, with a focus on material and fabric with structural shapes.

What made you realize that you wanted to work in (fashion) design? 

When I was in middle-school, one day, as an extracurricular activity, an art teacher invited us to an art center and they showed a film about communication and fashion designers. It was inspiring, I realized what I have to do. 


Maartje Janse at FASHIONCLASH Festival 2016

Meet Dutch designer Maartje Janse, graduated in 2015 at ArtEZ Institute of the Arts in Arnhem. Maartje is mainly focused on reseach, concept, textile/print/dessin development. Currently she is based in Amsterdam.
Being part of the MOAM Collective 2016, selected for the  Mittelmoda Award and Waxman Textile Prize, Maartje is looking ahead to a very exciting year.

When did you realize you wanted to be a fashion designer? 
I was 12 and came to the open day of my former high school. They presented a fashion show and gave the opportunity to do textiles and fashion class for the next 5 years. I was sold! After that I did the pre-course at ArtEZ (Arnhem) and got accepted to the fashion design course.

What are your main achievements in your career at this moment? 
Being selected for the Mittelmoda Fashion Award 2016 and recently being selected for the Dorothy Waxman Textile Prize (Lidewij Edelkoort.inc, New York). It is something you dream of when you start studding and now it all happens.

In what projects are you involved at this moment? 
I am part of MOAM Collective 2016. Together with a group of 5 designers of different schools we are working on a collection that will be presented in October. We are being coached by various Dutch fashion designers and are able to produce fabrics in the Textile museum in Tilburg. During this process the Dutch television is making a documentary about the project. I am also doing some freelance work in the fashion design field.

Fresh Talent from Arnhem: Jef Montes

Please introduce yourself to our readers. (Who are you, where do you come from and what is your field of specialization?)

My name is Jef Montes and I am young rising woman’s-designer in the Netherlands. I graduated in 2012 for my Fashion Design Bachelor at ArtEZ Institute of Arts in Arnhem.

I have a very clear vision on shape, color and detail. My specialization is to experiment with different techniques of material and hand-craftsmanship. My way of working is very intuitive but very structural.

I have a very close relationship with my mannequin. Experimenting with shapes on my mannequin comes very natural to me. I love to explore things that come on-logical to my mind. My development is to keep exploring and expanding my own signature.

What inspires you in general?

Art/history, traveling, music, magazines, antique markets, exhibitions etc

Where are you based?

My Atelier is based in Arnhem/The Netherlands.

Mirte Engelhard + Nikki Giling = FASHIONCLASH Maastricht Fashion Show

1. Please introduce yourself to our readers. (Who are you, where do you come from and what is your field of specialization?) 

Hi, we are Mirte Engelhard (fashion designer) and Nikki Giling (accessory designer) and we are both from Arnhem, Holland. 

Mirte Engelhard: I graduated in Fashion Design at the ArtEZ Institute of Arts in Arnhem in 2009. Since then I’ve been running my own store in the Arnhem Fashion District and did several jobs for theater and dance companies and some collaborations with different disciplines. My style is characterized by nonchalantly falling shapes with sportswear details. A little Tomboy-ish. Most of the time I design women’s wear, but now and then I also like to design for men. 

Nikki Giling: In 2008 I graduated in Product Design at the ArtEZ Institute of Arts in Arnhem. During my study I specialized in designing fashion accessories. To learn the craftsmanship of making leather bags I followed an extra education. After my study I cooperated with several kinds of fashion designers and at the same time I was creating my own collection for my label Nikki Giling. I now own a shop in the fashion district of Arnhem were you can see me work on new items and buy my work.
