MOAM collective international

Thursday evening 8 March 2018 MOAM collective international powered by Zalando showed her first international collection.
The runway show took place in a monumental canal house at the Herengracht in Amsterdam.

The 450 invitees, including the (international) coaches, press and VIP’s, were divided over eight rooms, each room named after one of the cities where the designers were graduated. Iconic supermodel Pat Cleveland and her daughter Anna Cleveland walked the show. Besides being an inspiration to the designers, they embody MOAM’s credo: connecting young talent to iconic names from the fashion industry.

Martijn Nekoui about the show:

“Working together with Frans Ankoné on this very first international MOAM-project has been a dream come true. We’re super proud of this collection and the new generation of MOAM designers.”

The collection
Together, the designers created their own chimaeras. Mythical creatures constructed from different animals, which together form a strange but beautiful creature. The chimaeras symbolize the five designers working together as one. The collection shows references to workwear and couture, translated into fitted shapes as well as voluminous shapes. These silhouettes are a reference to the relation between restriction and freedom.

The chimaeras can be found in the figurative print, implemented in their own jacquard knit they’ve created together with TextileMuseum in their TextileLab. The designers also worked with recycled material from KLM; from rubber gloves and old banners to plastic and paper machine parts. All items were made with true craftsmanship of the designers in cooperation with the master tailors of the Master Tailor Institute.

For the show, the designers got to work with a dream team: stylists Jetteke van Lexmond and Frans Ankoné, chef de cabine hair Hester Wernert Wella Professionals Global Creative Artist & endorser Balmain hair, chef de cabine make-up Kathinka Gernant.

An international team
Thanks to the partnership with Zalando, MOAM could spread her wings internationally with this edition, to make things full circle three pret-a-porter items from the collection will be sold on the webshop. For the first time, the collective consisted of five designers from five different European countries; Robbie van Mierlo (Belgium), Rose Danford-Phillips (UK), Roos Boshart (The Netherlands), Maximiliano Ruelas (Italy) en Catherine Le Théresien (France).
The past five months the designers lived together in The Student Hotel in Amsterdam and worked together in the MOAm atelier. They were coached by several iconic names from the creative industry, like Frans Ankoné, Diane Pernet, Viktor&Rolf, Walter Van Beirendonck, Lucas Ossendrijver (Lanvin), Mart Visser, Jan Taminiau, Hien Le, Claes Iversen, Geert Bruloot, Saskia Stoeckler, Stephen Jones and Sara Maino (Vogue Italia).
