Dutch designer Ebby Port has won the KALTBLUT Magazine Talent Award 2017 during FASHIONCLASH Festival 2017 edition. Thanks to KALTBLUT Magazine, Ebby has been invited to present her collection in Berlin during Berlin Fashion Week where she gave showed her collection with a presentation and a showroom at Studio183.

FabricAge Exhibition

On Sunday, 10th September during Parcours Maastricht, FabricAge unveiled the first textile creations with an exhibition at Mosae Forum in Maastricht. The exhibition is open until 24 September.

The textile creations are designed by five fashion designers, six experienced crafts buddies, and made my more than 150 seniors during 250 hours. The starting point for the design was the city of Maastricht; the different neighborhoods and the diversity of inhabitants, but also the power of connection and cohesion. The five designers are Maarten van Mulken, Verena Klein, Ebby Port, IXX Jolijn Fiddelaers and Suzanne Vaessen (Strikks).





FabricAge 
Following the success of last year’s project LET'S (AD)DRESS THE PEOPLE (1 June-3 July, 2016) FASHIONCLASH and stichting Tout Maastricht joined forces again to transform this multidisciplinary social design project into a sustainable and distinctive textile product & label: FabricAge. The objective of FASHIONCLASH and Tout Maastricht is to establish a unique fabric design label which emphasizes on the active participation of the elderly and traditional crafts, bringing together the arts and crafts of textile design with the tangible and intangible heritage of our culture.FabricAge facilitates communities of all ages to come together, to connect through creativity, to gain meaning and to become visible to society.

FabricAge develops high-end one-of-a-kind textile designs, based on the wishes and preferences of clients, visualized by talented designers, crafted by experts, and collectively created by the senior community. Each design and process are tailor-made, giving participants the opportunity to be part of a challenging, educational, social and creative experience, and enabling them to contribute to a unique end result. This can range from an outspoken textile art object to an eye-catching wall decor.

Common Carnaval Maastricht

On February 7th Common Carnaval project took part of the official Carnaval Maastricht parade. This was truly an unforgettable experience where the true meaning of Carnaval was brought to daylight under thousands of people who cheered along the parade.
FASHIONCLASH took part at the project, mostly helping development of costumes with the fashion designer Ebby Port. The outcome was a splendid colorful clash material representing various cultures of the world.

Carnaval is one of (if not) the most powerful rituals known to our city. Maastricht cherishes its customs. Both old and new traditions exist right next to one another. It's all a matter of giving each other space. This is what makes Maastricht a good city to live in, to live life in and to visit.
 'Carnaval' is one of the oldest of these traditions. The ritual that culminates in the days of the carnaval festival is built from a wide variety of events: Gatherings of people, in large or small numbers, even when 'Vastelaovend' (the Limburgian name for Carnaval) is still just a date on the calendar we look forward to. Creating costumes, building a float, playing music, having food and drinks. We do all of these things together, as a group.
The theme of the Maastrichtian Vastelaovend is to connect, through ‘Plezeer & Sjariteit’, through fun and charity.
‘Common Carnaval’ is a project by, for and with citizens of Maastricht, those born to the city as well as refugees and newcomers. The refugees haven't just left their city, village or home. When they fled they had to leave the belongings, the moments, and the locations that shaped their every day life behind. They also left their shared rituals: the celebrations they shared with family, friends, neighborhoods, cities or even an entire country.
One of the pillars of the 'Mestreechter Geis', the pride of any Maastrichtian, is the tolerant way of life.

This is why Common Carnaval was initiated as a wholehearted welcome for all refugees.
"We want to meet them, help them participate, and make them feel included in our community.We can do this by sharing our rituals bound to the Carnaval with them. By inviting them to create costumes together, by building objects and a float together, and by taking part in the parade together."

Core value of celebrating Carnaval is questioning society and every one's social role in a humorous, curious, and respectful manner. Therefore a temporary Carnaval's Society was formed, a union that was led by a refugee-Prince (Ali from Syria) and a Princess Carlene who is 'ein vaan us' (Limburgian: one of us, referring to the people who speak the Maastricht dialect). The traditional ‘Council of eleven' leading, consisted of a number of young Maastrichtians, some young artists and a few young refugees or asylum seekers.
During the preparation fase this council tried to connect all inhabitants of Maastricht through the use of mild humor. In the meantime the project received major media attention throughout the country offering a platform for a positive dialogue of intergration.

Origin of Common Carnaval 
The very first draft of the idea to build a float came into being at Zuyd Hogeschool: iArts students named Tess Elschot, Jasper Wüller, Gerold Sewcharan, Raki Eckstein-Kovacs worked on a project adressing the current issue of refugees under the guidance of music theater company 'Het Geluid Maastricht' . After a conversation with 'de Tempeleers' and after receiving a letter of recommendation from mayor Annemarie Penn - Te Strake, 'Het Geluid Maastricht' and 'Bureau Europa' have thought about how to apply the project citywide by attracting multiple partners. Furthermore they embraced the idea of 'commoning', to put development and production processes in the hands of a communal network in order to use a collective way of working where civilians and professional organisations provide added value towards society as a whole. The goal here is to stimulate an increasing level of social involvement. In a project that connects societal, performative and designpractices.

Ebby Port represented FASHIONCLASH at FashionPhilosophy Fashion Week Poland in Łódz

After quick check-in at the Double Tree Hilton Hotel Laurens and I dive into the domain of FashionPhilosophy Poland, Łódź. He gives me a quick update on compact communication, show scheduling, media badges and FASHIONCLASH ‘hashtagging'. You know ‘serious stuff’. First show? Here we go.

The music roars. Our stomachs resonate with the heavy bass. Shows are alike and up tempo. The style is hard, almost physical and so are the collections. On the front row we join the experts from Kaltblut Magazine, ModaLisboa and Dash Magazine. For four days we only exist as an audience lingering in between shows, markets, dinners and coffee breaks.

On the second day Ebby Port arrives, FASHIONCLASH’s latest promise. She is invited to show her work. Her designs differ from the masculinity of the Polish trend by being juvenile. In the morning we assist her with the fitting and immerse ourselves in the real life of the show, the reality of the stress, the hard work and not to forget: the excitement.

It is time to choose her models. They stand in line bare and clean. The beauty of youth has such potential. Suddenly fashion revealed its true form, it comes alive.

Only 15 minutes before her show and we are all backstage. Not as experts, but as Marcel, Tiago, Laurens and Tim. We want to feel the anticipation, let it get under our skin. Translators yell, dresses fly and shoes hurt. The final match of clothes is made. Ebby instructs the models: “I want ‘happy’, but not Mariah Carey. Be frisky and enjoy the clothes.”

Her collection doesn’t want to be heavy. Color is not a detail of the designs, but an element worn by the models. The garment is eccentric, but leaves space for character. Green eyes accessorize the look. Slits accentuate the wearer’s flair. Her last piece, a beautiful green dress with silkscreen print, exhibits the strong, voluptuous woman underneath. It all comes together on the catwalk. FashionPhilosophy Fashionweek Poland inhales her work.

She returns with praise, interviews and a future photoshoot. On Facebook Philippe Pourhashemi sums it up nicely: #SMILE.

POP-UP SHOP: MIJNshop & MIJNcollectie (6-14 July)

For the year of the mines three southern-Limburg designers Linda Friesen, Ebby Port and Gabriel Guevara present their 21st century version of mineworkers clothing during MBFWA. The collection excist of five unique haute couture pieces and a ready-to-wear line. All pieces are interpretations of former mineworkers clothing and inspired by cultural communities who worked in mines (Italy, Poland, Slovenia, Belgium, Germany, Hungary, Morocco, Spain and Friesland). Youngsters of 100% Heerlen made ten unique pieces which are presented during the temporary MIJNshop in the IJzaal next to Framer Framed in the Tolhuistuin.

Followed program on fashion, identity and sustainability Fashion lives on the street, in the media and on the many assets of our society. With our choice of clothing we tell stories about who we are. During ‘MIJNshop & MIJNcollectie’ a special programme was organized about fashion, identity and sustainability on the 8th of July.
From 12:00 to 18:00 there was a workshop-afternoon with the youth of 100% Heerlen printing 'textile miners. Following there was a panel discussion with, among others stylist Majid Karrouch, Willa Stoutenbeek (W. Green) and designer / illustrator Ikram El Messaoudi on the relationship between clothing and identity.

Léon Kruijswijk of Framer Framed moderated the discussion.

Ebby Port at FASHIONCLASH Festival 2015

Meet Ebby Port, one of our talented local designers at FASHIONCLASH Festival.
Ebby Port is born in Tilburg but moved to Geleen (Limburg) where she feels more like home.
After studying in Rotterdam and Brussels Ebby decided to live in the area that makes her the happiest.
So now she shares a studio in Sittard with a close friend, Alexander Claessen. Ebby has been designing clothes since 10 years now, since she had her first sewing class.

How would you describe your work ? 
For me my work is always about freedom in a way, or/and a reflection of the time we live in. I get inspired by various aspects of life. But it is always very personal. It is about emotions, what I see around me and the world turing around. I use silkscreen printing technique to develope my fabrics. For me this is a way to express my thought and I enjoy to use this very physical technique. It feels like sculpting in a way.
Have you presented your work before?
I have shown at FASHIONCLASH Festival already too times now.

What do you aspire to be?
I aspire to be a good person and to help others.

What is your most name worthy achievement up to now in relation to fashion ?
My most worthy achievement in relation to fashion is spread out in different moments, it is the time I see someone wearing my design with love and that for a moment I forget it is my design. Another moment is when I take off the silkscreen window of the fabric right after printing and the color combination suprises me. Another worthy achievement is our beautiful studio, everytime, if it is in the morning or at night I feel so happy and grateful to be there.

Designers in Stores - FASHIONCLASH Festival 2015

FASHIONCLASH is proud of collaboration with a numerous local entrepreneurs in Maastricht - during our Side Program the project called 'Designers in Stores takes place'. The idea is that our designers present their pieces in prestigious Maastricht's stores - boutiques known for their high quality of design selection, from house decor to luxurious brands.

PL-Line store is located at Bredestraat 7 and it offers a wide range of the luxurious brands, like Saint Laurent Paris, Givenchy or Dsquared 2. During FASHIONCLASH Festival WILFRIED LANTOINE and Alexander Khorikian are going to present their works in the boutique.

Opening MIJNshop & MIJNcollectie launch

Friday, March 6th, SCHUNCK*
celebrated 5 openings in the context of M2015 Jaar van de Mijnen (year of the coal mines).

One of the openings was the opening of MIJNshop pop-upstore and premiere of the collection developed in the context of the project
MIJNshop/MIJNcollectie.

In this MIJNshop you can find and buy the MIJNcollection, an 'update' of the old miners' clothing. Three young designers from South Limburg (Ebby Port, Linda Friesen and Gabriel Guevara) and youngsters of 100% Heerlen initiative present their contemporary interpretations of miners clothing as a 'new second skin' for Heerlen.

MIJNshop is located at Bongerd 4 in Heerlen.

MIJNshop - MIJNcollectie Preview

Voor het Jaar van de Mijnen brengen SCHUNCK*, M2015 FASHIONCLASH en 100% Heerlen een ‘update’ van de oude mijnwerkerskleding. Drie jonge Zuid-Limburgse ontwerpers, Linda Friesen, Ebby Port en Gabriel Guevara presenteren hun hedendaagse interpretaties van mijnwerkerskleding als ‘een tweede huid’ voor Heerlen. De ontwerpen zijn geïnspireerd op de culturele gemeenschappen van de verschillende migrantengroepen die hier kwamen werken.

De MIJNcollectie wordt gepresenteerd en verkocht in de MIJNshop, een pop-up store gehuisvest in een leegstaand pand op Bongerd 4, Heerlen. Jongeren van het leerwerkbedrijf 100% Heerlen voegen maandelijks n.a.v. een vereenvoudigd patroon, tien commerciële exemplaren aan de MIJNcollectie toe. Vrijwilligers uit de verschillende wijken bemannen de pop-up store. Deze pop-up store dient tevens als het officiële informatiepunt van M2015.

MIJNshop & MIJNcollectie with Ebby Port

Few weeks ago we have seen how youngsters from 100% Heerlen and designer Linda Friesen collaborated for MIJNcollectie collection -> see here.
Next designer in line to set up a production process for the project was Ebby Port. Based on Ebby's design, 100% Heerlen was working on production of 10 simplified garments that will be available at MIJNshop in Heerlen from March 6.

MIJNshop & MIJNcollectie

MIJNshop & MIJNcollectie is a project in the context of M2015 (Year of the Mines), initiated by SCHUNCK*, FASHIONCLASH and 100% Heerlen and with cooperation with M2015 Foundation.
The three young designers from South Limburg, Linda Friesen, Ebby Port and Gabriel Guevera will dive into coal mine heritage and present their contemporary version of the miners clothing. They will design new clothing and accessories inspired by clothing worn by miners.

MIJNshop
Every month, one designer will design one unique 'show piece design' that is both inspired by the former miners clothing as of the cultural communities of Heerlen (Italy, Poland, Belgium, Germany, Hungary, Morocco, Spain, Friesland).

All the 'show piece designs' will be presented in the MIJNshop, a pop-up shop that will be officially opened on March 6 at Bongerd in Heerlen. Based on the 'show piece designs' designers will also develop a simplified commercial designs and then in cooperation with youngsters from the 100% Heerlen produce out of each commercial design 10 pieces that will be sold in MIJNshop.
By means of this collaborative process, the MIJNcollection will be developed throughout the year.

Designs created by the three designers in this project will also be presented during FASHIONCLASH Festival 2015.

Heerlen forms part of Parkstad Limburg (formerly known as "Oostelijke Mijnstreek"- Eastern Mineregion), and was a centre for the coal mining industry in the Netherlands in the late 19th century. Mine workers came from all over Europe, often with their families, contributing to a multicultural society that is nowadays charasteric for Parkstad Limburg.

With M2015 Jaar van de Mijnen (Year of the Mines) Parkstad is celebrating the coal mine heritage with  various projects and a diverse cultural programma.

FASHIONCLASH at designSUPERMARKET / Prague

FASHIONCLASH presents Dutch fashion talent at designSUPERMARKET 2014 
11-14 December Prague, Czech Republic

FASHIONCLASH platform has been invited to present Dutch fashion talent at designSUPERMARKET 2014 event in Prague. Diversity, innovation and creativity of Dutch fashion design will be on display with work of five young designers. The selection of designers includes Joelle Boers|Studio, Ebby Port, Marsha Kessels, Chris van den Elzen and Judith van Vliet. The work of the selected designers will show fashion in the broadest sense of the word, next to fashion design one can find shoe design, textile design, jewellery and accessories. All designers have presented their work at FASHIONCLASH Festival 2014 and are now continuing with their successes.
Designers Judith van Vliet and Chris van den Elzen met each other in the context of FASHIONCLASH /Invito Shoe Design Challenge and than joined forces with success at FASHIONCLASH Festival 2014. Ebby Port and Marsha Kessels are from both based in Limburg where they also met within one of FASHIONCLASH projects. Marsha’s jewellery served as the perfect match with Ebby’s collection that was display during the runway programme of FASHIONCLASH Festival. Joelle Boers | Studio is an multidisciplinary design studio that focuses on print and textile design for homewear products, accessories and clothing.

Ontwerper/Ondernemer Project

Doe je ogen dicht en denk aan Maastricht - Eén van de eerste dingen die je dan ‘ziet’ is winkelend publiek in de sfeervolle straten van onze karakteristieke stad en mensen die een drankje doen op het terras gelegen aan een gezellig plein.

Maastricht Winkelstad, we kunnen ons er alles bij voorstellen. Winkelen en mode hebben alles met elkaar te maken. Maar toch is het concept Maastricht Modestad nog niet zo duidelijk te zien.


Het antwoord: Ontwerper/Ondernemer Project
Het concept Maastricht Modestad is nog niet sterk gevestigd terwijl hier wel mogelijkheden voor zijn. Daar wilt Gemeente Maastricht in samenwerking met FASHIONCLASH wat aan doen.

Gezamenlijke ambitie: mode in Maastricht versterken gericht op een reputatie en een dynamische modesector van Maastricht als modestad. Hoe? De academie in Maastricht is een bronpunt van veel talent. Maar slechts weinigen worden succesvol ondernemer. Hierdoor komt veel talent niet tot volledige wasdom. FASHIONCLASH en de gemeente Maastricht slaan de handen ineen en bieden een gezamenlijk programma aan: Ontwerper/Ondernemer.
Dit zakelijk begeleidingsprogramma leert ontwerpers op persoonlijke wijze de basisvaardigheden van het ondernemen waarmee ze hun eigen modeonderneming kunnen ontwikkelen.
Er is nog een lange weg te gaan maar de ingrediënten en de enthousiasme zijn er.
