My style is characterized by nonchalantly falling shapes with sportswear details. A little Tomboy-ish. Most of the time I design women’s wear, but now and then I also like to design for men.

To learn the craftsmanship of making leather bags I followed an extra education. After my study I cooperated with several kinds of fashion designers and at the same time I was creating my own collection for my label Nikki Giling. I now own a shop in the fashion district of Arnhem were you can see me work on new items and buy my work.

I usually work for magazine editorials, music videos, advertising, movies and whatever comes my way of interest.

2. What inspires you as a designer/artist?
Action always generates inspiration. I seek inspiration at many levels, it could be a book, a dance a friend, a story ...from the sky, from the earth, from a spider web:)

Agata Olek brings her passion for crochet in the Clash Project

Olek was born Agata Oleksiak in Poland and graduated from Adam Mickiewicz University in Poland with a degree in Cultural Studies. In New York, she rediscovered her ability to crochet and since then she has started her crocheted journey/madness. Olek believes she chose crocheting as her artistic method to be able to do two things at once: to watch movies and make art.

“I think crochet, the way I create it, is a metaphor for the complexity and interconnectedness of our body and its systems and psychology. The connections are stronger as one fabric as opposed to separate strands, but, if you cut one, the whole thing will fall apart. It’s also a literal extension of the body, a sort of second skin that can be stretched and reshaped by the body inner workings as it shapes or distorts that body. I can’t really speak to what I want to reveal—to know that, you’d have to find the end of the string and unravel it.” (Agata Olek)

Theatrical Encounters: Annemarije van Harten and Judith de Joode

Annemarije van Harten
picture Peter Stigter
What happens when we organised a Theatrical Encounter between Annemarije van Harten and Judith de Joode?

'So wie es ist bleibt es nicht'  B. Brecht

Since a long time Judith has the desire to become a 'thing', something that just is. A plant that is standing next to the portrait on the chimney, a coat on the hallstand. Annemarije likes to make people disappear in her designs. She made a chair for Judith to stay in. Or disappear into. Where is Judith?

Best, Annemarije.

Join us at FASHIONCLASH Maastricht 2012 Exhibition to see the result of this inspiring encounter...

Marlou Breuls presents “Revēlātiō”

1. Please introduce yourself to our readers. (Who are you, where do you come from and what is your field of specialization?)
My name is Marlou Breuls. I’m 20 and I’m living in a small village, called Elsloo (nearby Maastricht). This summer I’ll hopefully be a graduate of the ROC Tilburg in Fashion design. Presently, I am waiting strained for the result of my admission for AMFI (Amsterdam Fashion Institute).

2. Tell us a little bit about the concept behind your collection “Revēlātiō”.
My collection is based on the Apocalypse. “Revēlātiō” is Latin for the end of times. Trying to expose beauty in an image of war, hunger and death. The most common explanation of apocalypse, particularly in religious texts, points at the end of the earth. In the title of the final book of the New Testament – Revelation, we also find a reference towards this latter meaning which it is generally interpreted as the downfall of human civilization and/or the Earth. In Revelation it becomes clear that it is about the four horsemen of the Apocalypse: victory is followed by war, hunger and death.

1. Please introduce yourself to our readers. (Who are you, where do you come from and what is your field of specialization?)
My name is Andrea Mohr. I was born and raised in the city of Bonn in Germany. After high school I went to live in Tokyo for one year and then came to Maastricht in the Netherlands to pursue my studies in fashion design. I specialize in womenswear, in which I explore different techniques and prints.
Lately, I've increasingly focused on prints and the “lenticular effect”, that simulates moving images.
After graduation, I will further specialize in this and work towards a collection and a range of accessories that will be exhibited as part of MARKED!, an initiative of Designplatform Limburg and C-Mine in Genk that works with ten young designers and helps them produce and sell their products. These items will also be sold in selected stores at the end of the year.
